Analytics engine
A query engine optimized for analytical workloads — scanning and aggregating large columnar datasets — as distinct from transactional processing.
Why it matters
Where the analytics engine runs is a reproducibility decision. Local-first, in-process engines collapse the gap between research and verification: the colleague checking your result runs the same query on the same file rather than requesting access to a cluster.
